Mr Chan is a Non-Executive Director of the Â鶹´«Ã½ (SFC). He is a well-recognised venture capitalist and has a track record of more than 30 years in Asian private equity, having made over 80 investments in technology and growth companies in Greater China, Korea and Southeast Asia.
Before his retirement in July 2024, he served as a Partner of Beyond Ventures, a technology early-stage venture fund investing mainly in Mainland China and Hong Kong. In 2016-22, he was a Senior Managing Director and Head of Asia of Samena Capital, a principal investment group. Mr Chan was the founding CEO of Spring Capital, an independent early growth fund, and a Managing Director and Head of North Asia of JAFCO Asia. Prior to these, he was a growth investor with Suez Asia and HSBC Private Equity (Asia) based in Hong Kong.
Mr Chan is also active in public service. He is currently the Treasurer and Executive Director of the Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association, a Board Member of the Hong Kong Foundation for the University of Manchester, an Investment Committee member of Corporate Venture Fund of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks and a panel member of the Resolvability Review Tribunal. He serves as a Board Member of the Hong Kong Â鶹´«Ã½ and Investment Institute, member of the Hospital Governing Committee of Castle Peak Hospital and Siu Lam Hospital, and member of the Antiquities Advisory Board. On the Mainland, Mr Chan is a member of Chengdu Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
Previously, Mr Chan was a member of the SFC’s Public Shareholders Group and a panel member of the Â鶹´«Ã½ and Futures Appeals Tribunal. He was a member of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong’s Main Board and GEM Listing Committee and Main Board and GEM Listing Review Committees, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s Innovation and Technology Advisory Committee and Information and Communication Technology Services Advisory Committee. In addition, Mr Chan was a Director of the Manchester Business School Leadership Board and a member of the Disciplinary Panel of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr Chan received a B.A. from the University of Hong Kong and an MBA from the Manchester Business School. He also obtained a CFA charter.
Mr Chan is a member of the SFC’s Remuneration Committee.
